Chorafakia is a small village of Akrotiri, 11 km away from Chania and 7 km from the Airport. The nearest beach, Kalathas, is about a 3-5 minute walk away, it is a sandy beach in a bay. Other beaches near Chorafakia are those of Tersanas and Machairida which are about 1 and 2 km respectively. Chorafakia is also a good starting point to organize visits to the monasteries that exist in the area such as those of Agia Triada, Gouvernetos and Katholikos and also to spend free time at the beach of Stavros where the movie Zorba the Greek was filmed. In the village there are traditional taverns, bars and supermarkets.
