The village of Vamos is located 190 m above the sea in the province of Apokoronas, about 28 km from Chania. The history of Vamos goes back to the 8th century and later the presence of the Venetians in the 16th century strongly influenced the local architecture. In the middle of the 19th century under the Ottoman occupation, the town was declared the capital of the province of Sfakia. This led to a great development of the area with new buildings and palaces. The historical and architectural heritage is perfectly preserved and invites you to visit the town and stroll through its alleys. The area is surrounded by greenery and offers many services, including a health center, pharmacy, bank, primary and secondary schools, high school, magistrate’s court, police station, post office, and a supermarket. The beaches of Kalyves, Kera, and Almyrida are 12 minutes drive and in 20 minutes you can reach the long beach of Georgioupolis. In the center of Vamos there are several taverns, restaurants, and cafes. It is a traditional village where visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside, traditional food, and generally enjoy a relaxed and quiet lifestyle away from the mass tourism resorts.
