The redesign focused on redefining the functional zones and uses of the building, as well as the functional and aesthetic upgrade of the spaces. The preservation of the mosaic floors contributed to highlighting the urban character of the residence, of the 1940s.

The interventions carried out in the premises were mild in nature, without modifying the structural elements of the building. The design approach was kept in simple lines, interwoven with the characteristics of the old urban household with a modern aesthetic. The functions were defined by the existing shell, which indicates the distinction of uses.

This country house dominates the slopes of a hill in the prefecture of Chania, in the area of Topolia. The building is located on a single plot, next to a residence, made entirely of stone, with a pitched roof. The design goal was to create a building that would harmonize with the environment and at the same time share elements with the already existing nearby residence, while it would be able to host 3-5 people throughout the year.

As the load-bearing body of the building was already designed, from a previous study with an existing building permit, the design focused on re-arrangement and performance of a unified aesthetic in the interior and exterior, which responds to the relaxed nature of the holidays.

The exterior space contributed significantly to the assimilation of the residence into the landscape. It is organized on two levels to accommodate the slope of the ground. On the first level is the dining area, while on the second lower level, the pool area faces the sea and the village.

The treatment of the facades of the building moved towards external separation of the daytime spaces from the night spaces, with the differentiation of materials. Also, wooden shelters were added, which are used to frame the main entrance of the residence, as well as the relaxation area on the 1st floor.

In the interior, design decisions are framed by the concept of traditional style. The day areas are placed on the ground floor in direct relation to the outside, while the night areas provide the required privacy and are placed on the 1st floor.

Natural materials such as wood, stone, and mortar are chosen to underline the compositional objectives, such as the dialogue with the landscape, the simplicity of the forms, and the “modern traditional” sense of habitation.

The study concerns the construction of a luxury residence, which will be able to accommodate up to six people. The residence in question is located on a plot of land less than 200 m from the sea. The design aims to harmonize the building in a fairly sparsely populated area, in the village of Livadeia.

The residence consists of three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor, while the kitchen, living room, and an auxiliary WC are located on the ground floor, alongside an outdoor dining area and a living room. Next to them, in a landscaped area, there is a 50m2 swimming pool and built-in barbeque facility.

The connecting choices are reflected in the exterior and interior spaces, with the splitting of the volumes, which sometimes go outwards and sometimes recede inwards. This logic also governs the configuration of the surrounding space, with the differentiation in the heights of the levels, but also the alternation of surfaces with different materials. Greenery is a key pursuit for the design, as it is visible from every point of the interior, and offers a sense of calm and relaxation, while at the same time promoting extroversion.

Within the village of Topolia, a complex of nine apartments was redesigned. The complex is located on a single plot and is a complete accommodation proposal for all those looking for contact with nature, history, tranquility, and aesthetics.

With natural materials, such as wood, stone, and terracotta, the complex has been restored and recreated having been transformed into the ideal accommodations where you will experience unforgettable vacation moments on the island of Crete.

The focal point of the composition process was the way of integrating new, modern elements into the traditional fabric, without altering the traditional elements of the complex but also the image of the settlement as a whole. We chose to keep the stone in the pre-existing buildings, in order to fully harmonize with the entire settlement, and we used coating mortars in the remaining parts of the complex.

The building consists of a ground floor and a first floor, which are connected by an external staircase. The aim of the architectural study was the design of independent houses, which, however, will have a common expansion in the front yard, which is surrounded by trees while at the same time ensuring an unobstructed view of the vista. The design logic of the interior spaces followed is the “open plan” isolating only the functions of the toilet and the shower.

Staying true to the logic followed in the exterior spaces, we chose natural materials and colors for the interior spaces as well. Pressed cement mortar, built-in bathrooms, wood, and light colors characterize the interior spaces.

The study concerns the redesign of the interior of a traditional complex of buildings, in a village outside Chania. A basic condition was that the study should respond to the character and scale of the area.

The goal was to transform the existing conventional floor plan of the old building into a new typology, which would define each function in a way that contributes to the comfortable movement and communication of the spaces between them.

Thus, two bedrooms with independent entrances are created, and a joint meeting in a common area, kitchen-living room, which leads to a terrace. Respect for the traditional element of the building has led to the preservation of some features, such as the recesses in the masonry, the exposed stone around the openings, the wooden beamed ceilings, and the old wood oven that was converted into a jacuzzi.

The style of the residence moves along simple and modest lines with clear references to the Cretan element, alluding to the traditional style, without overshadowing the modern design approach.

On a plot of land within the settlement Aroni in Akrotiri, a two-storey house, with a total area of 200 m2, is being built to meet the needs of a family of four. The architectural solution comes to satisfy both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the time, offering a warm and safe environment.

The central volume of the building is dark gray in color and outlined by a white orthonormal frame, which rises up to the first floor and separates the pitched roof volume from the rest of the building. The unique exterior of the residence, which protrudes from the white frame, is made of visible concrete, to enhance its functional differentiation from the building, while the wood paneling on the facade strengthens the axis of the entrance.

The building is placed in contact with the boundary of the plot to the east, as a result of which a single outdoor green space is created. These areas host a variety of shrubs and ornamental plants, mostly of low height, so that the view remains unobstructed even from the ground floor.

On the ground floor, the single living, dining, and kitchen area is organized with large sliding windows, in order to make full use of the unobstructed and panoramic view. The main bedroom and the two children’s bedrooms are located on the first floor, each with large openings to ensure an unobstructed view. The vertical movements between the floors are facilitated by the straight staircase with the relief carrier.

Light, natural and artificial, plays an important role in the design and is used as a synthetic element. All the spaces are diffused by natural light through large openings, while the artificial lighting, direct or indirect, is designed to emphasize the movements and give continuity and plasticity to the space, revealing the geometry and materiality of each element.

The interior is designed with particular attention to detail, combining a variety of materials and special constructions. The craftsmanship is reflected in the careful selection of natural oak and walnut floors and the artistic staircase, and complemented by the carefully curated selection of furniture and objects throughout.

The architectural study of a modern hotel of 2000M2 in Stalos focuses on minimal aesthetics, creating an elegant and functional space that highlights the simplicity and natural beauty of the environment. The design incorporates clean lines and simple forms, avoiding unnecessary elements to offer a sense of calm and balance.

The hotel has rooms with minimalist decoration, where functionality is combined with elegance. Large glass surfaces allow an abundant influx of natural light, creating a bright and welcoming environment. The terraces and outdoor spaces offer magnificent views of the sea and the natural landscape, enhancing the sense of connection with nature.

The interior layout includes communal areas such as the lounge and restaurant, designed to promote guest interaction and socialization. The minimal design is emphasized by the use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, which add warmth and texture to the space.

The study adopts sustainable practices, aiming to manage resources and minimize the environmental footprint.

The residence is located just outside the city of Chania, with a wide view of the sea and the natural environment of the area.

The ground floor is developed in a C shape, embracing the view and the semi-outdoor spaces. One of the main principles followed during the design was to maintain visual contact with the sea from all areas, which is expressed by large openings to the north. In terms of design, the “open plan” logic was followed with a single space configuration, while the differentiation of functions was achieved by creating different levels.

The first floor is formed into an inverted C-shaped volume, in relation to the ground floor, in which the overnight areas of the residence are placed. Five large bedrooms of a distinct style are created each, three bathrooms, and a separate space for the necessary washers and dryers of the residence.

In the outdoor areas, a two-level swimming pool is created, in continuation of the sea, which follows the shape of the residence and embraces the living room. A similar logic to the interior spaces governs the configuration of the exterior spaces, in which levels are developed with the aim of unobstructed views of the sea from all points. On the first level, that of the interior living room, an outdoor living area, and a dining area with a barbeque are created, with the aim of the greatest possible integration of the interior with the exterior. The second level is configured with a wooden deck around the pool, aiming to highlight the distinct character of each level.

The composition is completed by pergolas made of metal and wood, while visible concrete and cement mortar define the form of the structured surfaces.
